Read Below My Top 3 Tips on Balancing Your New Relationship and Personal Life
- Take some “YOU” time.
In a new relationship, it is easy to want to spend every waking moment with that special person. Even when you are not around that person, you find yourself constantly thinking of them. But even in the midst of the incredible journey of falling in love, it is important to take some time out for yourself. Remember that you had a life before you met this person and it is important to retain a sense of yourself while in a relationship. Make sure to continue to participate in activities, hobbies or sports that you did before you started your relationship. This is important in that it will give you a sense of your own self-identity, while continuing to do the things that you love. Try asking your significant other to join you in some of these activities. It might be a fun way to give them a peek inside your world.
- Plan Ahead
Life is so busy! It can be tough to find a way to balance everything, especially at the beginning of a new relationship. All of the sudden you find that you are cutting your time in numerous directions and the process can be both overwhelming and exhausting. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a major advocate of planners. Whether you are old school, like me, and write everything down or you are more new age and use an electronic calendar, it is so important to document upcoming dates and events. Staying organized will eliminate confusion and added stress. Let’s say, for instance, that both you have busy schedules planned for the week. Plan ahead together and schedule a time on the weekend where it is just you two. If you are in a long distance relationship, then make sure to set aside special “virtual date nights”, via skype or Facetime, so that you are devoting a set amount of time to your love.
- Incorporate Them Into Your Life
If you are away at school or have a demanding job, try incorporating your partner into some aspects of your daily life and activities. That way, they are involved in your life without physically being there. Try sending snaps or pictures of the big project you are working on for class or asking their advice on a special proposal idea that you have for work. People that love us, love to feel included in our life. Make them feel appreciated and that even though you have a busy schedule, they are still a priority.
Remember that you CAN have it all! A great relationship, thriving personal life, and awesome work life! You just need to dedicate some time to each aspect of your life and learn to be flexible.
