April is the month of spring cleaning and April Showers, but April is also National Financial Literacy Month! Did you know that in 2015, less than 60% of Americans considered themselves to be financially literate? Finances can be daunting or overwhelming, but Walker’s Legacy Foundation is here to help you stay on top of your money management skills.
Here are three ways to improve your financial literacy skills during National Financial Literacy Month:
- Confidence! This may seem unusual or unrelated to money management skills, but a study done by Time Magazine shows that confidence plays a very vital role in improving financial literacy, especially for women. How many times have you said “I’m not good with numbers”, for example? If you change your mindset from a negative to a positive one, your money management skills may boost as well. Take the initiative to be optimistic about improving your financial literacy.
- Set a financial goal. This goal can be as small or as large as you like, and it can be tailored to your personal expenses. If you would like to limit the amount you spend on groceries, or you know that spending money on every new release from your favorite makeup brand is taking you under financially, setting monthly goals on how much to cut back on can help you be one step closer to better money management skills.
