“Time to literally put my money where my mouth is,” Solange Knowles

Historically, Black-run banks served African-American communities during an time where discrimination was extremely common in financial services. Today, especially given the recent events in the Black community, these institutions continue to function as engines for economic revitalization within the distressed communities they serve.

Entertainer Solange Knowles is the latest of Black Hollywood to pledge her support of Black-owned Banks and she encourages other celebrities to do the same. She announced on Instagram that it was “time to literally put [her] money where [her] mouth is” and posted a Black bank directory on her site.

There are over 21 Black-owned banks in the United States that serve the high number of African-Americans don’t have access from mainstream financial services.

You can check out that list and find your local Black-owned bank here.
