A lot of people don’t realize that it hard to just take a leap of faith and leave corporate to pursue your passion as an entrepreneur. There are also steps to complete first to make sure that you are ready for this change of lifestyle. If you are an entrepreneur or aspire to be one, you truly want to understand what it really means and what it is all about.
You have to go into this with a positive attitude and know that there will be times where it may seem like nothing is being done. Below are a few steps you can take while mapping out your entrepreneurial journey.
Step 1 – Have the right mindset: The first thing that you should do is to determine if this is for you. Are you ready to be an entrepreneur? Do you have what it takes? Can you differentiate your wants vs. needs?
If you answered yes to all of the above then you are ready to start Step 2.
It’s hard to just step out on faith and trust that everything will work out, but if you don’t fail then you will never know what you need to work on. I was once told that success is not an event, it is a process.
Step 2 – Map out your goals: Step 2 is more challenging because this is when you find out what it is you want to do. What is your goal and your purpose in life? Everyone has one, but it’s sometimes hard finding out what your calling is.
When I found my calling, I was testing fate and hoping for one thing and I got something else. I lost everything within a month – my job, home, car, food, phone, and mind. Despite my losing everything that was material, I still had air in my body to breathe, so I took that situation to get back up and found my calling of being the voice for the voiceless. It starts with a thought or an idea and ends with change.
Planning is one of the most important parts of running a business, no matter if it is a large multinational corporation trying to plan an expansion, or a small business launching an exciting new product. The great thing about a business plan is that it can provide a reference point for you to return to at any point during the project. Just looking at a plan and seeing how far you have come is a great motivational tool. It can help you determine whether you have drifted too far away from your original vision and allow you to get back on track once again. It is easy to start a project, but without careful planning, it is like setting off on a journey to an unknown destination without a roadmap.
Step 3 – Start Thinking: Once you complete Steps 1 and 2, you are ready for Step 3, which is thinking of ways to put your plan into action. Map out circumstances you need to get ahead in your life. If you can’t find them, make them. If you don’t see the door to your success, build one. When you are passionate about what you want nothing will stand in your way of getting it. Referring back to Step 2, make sure your goals are tangible as possible. One successful goal achieved will build your motivation to achieve the next goal in front of you and so on.
Step 4 – Commit: The final step is putting it into action. You also have to surround yourself with like-minded people. If you’re committed, you attract others who are committed. If you’re growing, you attract others who are growing. Your greatest growth will always come as a result of finding people ahead of you who can show you the way forward. Your dreams can not be done alone; you need a great, driven team around you to support!
