What has been the biggest inspiration for  your career?

Being able to change someone’s mood, day, and self-esteem just by giving them a new look is so gratifying and keeps me motivated and inspired constantly.

One professional thing you would you change about your career in your twenties, if anything?

I’m not sure I would change anything as all of those steps (good and bad) led me to where I am today. The younger me was spontaneous, fearless and had big dreams.

Tell us more about your business…

MANE Hair Society (MANE) is an early stage start-up focused on creating a national network of textured hair bars. We aim to address the pain points that have left many women with textured hair frustrated. We celebrate and honor women with textured hair, albeit natural or chemically processed. MANE is not a full-service salon, but an innovative salon format that provides two curated tiers of services. We are too textured hair what the Dry Bar is to straight haired women, plus the added bonus of expertly textured hair experts.
MANE seeks to change the salon industry by innovatively serving women with textured hair.

What are your thoughts on the importance of women of color in business?

I am a huge supporter of celebrating my sisters. Black women in powerful positions was a rare thing for me to see growing up with the exception of my mother. I make it a point to seek out and support businesses owned by women and always ask them to share their stories with my daughter.

What woman serves as your greatest source of inspiration today?

My mom!

What are two staple items you must have for a power meeting or power networking event?

My phone and an energized upbeat disposition.

Favorite place to vacation?

Kaui Hawaii

What are your thoughts on balancing work and life?

It’s definitely not easy as I travel a lot for work. My time is spent in thirds. Work, family and ME!

What was your inspiration for creating your business?

As a hairstylist, I get emails constantly from women around the country asking me to recommend a stylist in different states. There are very few consistent places where a women with textured hair can go, and know she will get amazing expert service for her hair without tons of research. This isn’t a problem for our counterparts, so we wanted to create that.
