Actress and comedian Mo’Nique, took to Instagram over the weekend urging fans to boycott Netflix, accusing them of “gender bias and color bias” after allegedly being offered a fraction of what was offered to other comedians and entertainers.

“I was offered $500,000 last week to do a comedy special,” Mo’Nique stated in her Instagram video, “However, Amy Schumer was offered $11 million, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock $20 million.”

The pay disparities Mo’Nique speaks about is well known in the entertainment industry. Women of color in the entertainment industry often emphasize that their challenges with equal pay are mostly because of how the industry labels them as “problematic” and “challenging,”

In the video, when Mo’Nique mentioned the comparison between her and Amy Schumer she says, “When we asked Netflix to explain the difference… they said, ‘Well that’s what we believe Mo’Nique will bring, We said, ‘What about my resume?’ They said, ‘We don’t go off of resumes.’ Then we asked them, ‘What was it about Amy Schumer?’ And they said, ‘Well, she sold out Madison Square Garden twice and she had a big movie over the summer. Is that not Amy Schumer’s resume?’”

Comedian Wanda Sykes, took to social media as well to thank Mo’Nique for speaking out about this issue. In a tweet, Sykes stated:

Responding to Sykes, Mo’Nique posted in a second Instagram video, “But how is it that when it comes to these two black female comedians that are still at the top of their game after 50+ years being in this business be offered $750,000 collectively?” Make that make sense.” she said.
