Former first couple, Barack and Michelle Obama have joined Netflix in a recent multi-year deal to create impactful and inspiring content. The content created, produced by Higher Ground Productions, will include scripted and unscripted series, documentaries, and features.

Obama campaign contributor and Netflix chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, helped to orchestrate the deal.
“Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognized public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” Sarandos said in a statement.
“We are incredibly proud they have chosen to make Netflix the home for their formidable storytelling abilities.”

This deal is the latest and one of the biggest moves by the streaming service to date. Netflix boasts 125 million subscribers worldwide and has also confirmed partnerships with Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes and Glee creator, Ryan Murphy among others.
