Walker’s Legacy presented its national ‘Women of Color in Tech’ event in Atlanta powered by Comcast. In partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the U.S. Minority Business Development Agency, the event showcased multicultural women in technology while exploring opportunities for minority women entrepreneurs to grow their entrepreneurial endeavors.

According to The Muse, only 28% of software jobs and 25% of IT jobs are held by women. Even more shockingly, women hold only 11% of executive positions in Silicon Valley; and own only 5% of startups. Those numbers dwindle even lower when it comes to women of color.

Featured Speakers Included:

  • Nikia Green, Comcast
  • Michelle Ferrell, Code Park Houston
  • Shar’nee Francis, the-site.io
  • Laura Silva, Bank of America
  • Ashley Turner, First Daughter, City of Houston
  • Joy Hutton, Walker’s Legacy Houston
  • Natalie Madeira Cofield, Walker’s Legacy

The program featured Fireside Chat Speaker, Nikia Green with Comcast; as well as a number of components aimed to connect small business owners and budding entrepreneurs with the digital tools, local resources, and business contacts needed to take their ventures to the next level.

The ‘Women of Color in Tech’ event series focuses on accelerating, supporting, and learning from outstanding female tech entrepreneurs and executives to create a positive trajectory for other women in the space.
