On Saturday, July 22, 2017, Walker’s Legacy Foundation graduated the inaugural cohort of enterprising Baltimore mothers from its 12-week intensive Moms Who Hustle: A Financial Planning and Entrepreneurship Program. The graduation ceremony cumulated the successful completion of the program, highlighted participants and included insight from successful local women entrepreneurs largely due to the dedication of our Entrepreneurship Instructor, Tina Montez.

“What impacted me the most about Moms Who Hustle was the encouragement to get started. When I first came, I had a lot of ideas and a lot on my mind. We had a guest speaker who said, ‘Get stuff done. Don’t think about how far you have to go just start with little stuff. Just the fact that you made an effort to sign up and come to the program is a big step.’ Ever since then I have been getting stuff done, slowly but surely.”- Melissa Butler, Moms Who Hustle Baltimore Program Graduate

The Baltimore cohort participants included:

  • Lori Kirkpatrick
  • Desiree Israel
  • Melissa Butler
  • Chantl Martin
  • Ardena Githara
  • Shamirah Jackson

The graduation keynote address was provided by Sheina Waddell of Waddell Entertainment Consultants, LLC who imparted best practices in business.  Additional speakers included Lisa Sanford from the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs who spoke about State of Maryland’s contractual opportunities for small woman-owned businesses.

The graduation was held at a The Cube CoWork, a coworking location for mothers that uniquely provides child care. Owners Tammira and Tekisha Lucas were also participants of the Walker’s Legacy PROSPECTUS Business Accelerator Program, and online accelerator that provides multicultural women with the resources necessary to grow and advance their entrepreneurial ventures.
